Executive Board Members | Poppy DeMarco Dennis Biography | As Elected Member, and Parks and Open Space Chair of San Dieguito Planning Board for over 12 years, Poppy DeMarco Dennis developed the Open Space and Environmental Plan for this 95 sq. mi., including S. Carlsbad to Torrey Pines Beach and East to I-15, and also worked with other regions to create special considerations in the zoning ordinance for rural/hillside road standards, stricter grading standards, and more review of “lot splits.” Poppy added a Biologist, Air Quality Specialist, and Health Specialist to the Environmental Review Board. They fought against the developer plans for ever-development and poor planning on the Coast and elsewhere. As a Board Member of Friends of San Dieguito River Valley, she worked with the park JPA to plan and support a regional park. She founded Community Coalition Network (CCN) to advocate for community involvement and support for public education. This group also organized a massive and successful press campaign to "out" right wing candidates attempting to impose fundamentalist values, vouchers, and other sectarian agenda into the public schools. Poppy was also a founding Board Member of Torrey Pines Coastal Sierra Club Group.
